Kono 96.5 FM
Kono, Sierra Leone
Eastern Radio – Kono 96.5 FM broadcasts from a hill overlooking Sierra Leone’s diamond mining capital. During the Ebola crisis, its broadcast house was attacked and vandalized by people who believed that the station’s news and information about the reality of Ebola was false. Reporters were harassed as well. Eastern Radio’s transmitter failed during Ebola, so FWA responded by shipping a new 700-watt transmitter to the station that allowed resumption of life-saving broadcasts.
